Like in his noted work, Galkadawala Eco Retreat at Habarna, Vijitha Basanayake’s work stands out like a mountain-austere and majestic without anything extraneous; his works seem to spring out from the earth. He uses age-old materials and construction techniques on modern building materials to create pleasing harmonious spaces. The burden on the limited natural resources is reduced by limiting the usage of concrete and inventive use of recycled materials. His living spaces are not a glass box to keep out the weather but transform into a micro environment for a symbiotic relationship between man and Nature.
