Palinda Kannangara is a practising architect in Colombo, Sri Lanka. After working under many masters in Sri Lanka, he started his own successful practice in 2004. His architecture is unpretentious and evokes a sense of clarity in use of materials while creating functional elegant spaces. Though inspired by tradition, his designs don’t get confined to its limiting framework. He experiments with contemporary material to create intimate spaces using a palette of natural colours, textures, light and shadow. He was awarded the commendation prize for the Geoffery Bawa award for Excellence in Architecture in the year 2008 and the Award of Excellence from the Sri Lanka Institute of Architects in the year 2009 for The Residential building at Makola. www.palindakannangara.com
