The Round House- Dr. Ar. Narein Perrera, Ahangama, Sri Lanka

Jury Citation: The Architect recognizes the greater environmental balance to be maintained and remains sensitive to the geology, topography and landscape. With a bold move of lifting the building and making it float above, it allows life on the hills to continue. The project’s circular form beautifully captures the 360 degree view around. The inner circle is kept rigid, but the outer circle is blurred like a porous layer. The usage of materials and tonality of the palette, dynamic transition spaces, voids and projections creates lightness and captures maximum undisturbed views along the circular walking link. The fragility of the project is very interesting – as if the users are like butterflies staying over the existing landscape, softly sitting on ground.
